The University of Texas at Dallas’ 11th Annual Golf Tournament, held May 3 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, raised more than $17,000 for scholarships at the university, according to Robert L. Lovitt, UTD senior vice president for business affairs and one of the tournament’s organizers.
“This was the best year we’ve ever had,” Lovitt said, adding that last year’s tournament had raised about $15,000. “The weather even cleared up for us in the afternoon after it rained much of Friday morning.”
A team led by Dr. Larry Redlinger, executive director of UTD’s Office of Strategic Planning and Analysis, and composed of Redlinger, Clay Hawley, Steve Coulter, Trey Hansen, George Jones and Mike Challenger finished first in the overall competition. A team of employees of Centex Construction Co. finished second.
The men’s winner for longest drive was Jeff Pemberton of 3D/International, and the women’s winner for longest drive was Kitty Lovitt. Sam Gioldasis of Hensel Phelps Construction Co. won the closest-to-the-hole competition, and UTD Human Resources Director Larry Wilson won two airline tickets donated by Navigant International Southwest Travel.
