U.T. Dallas to Host Texas Visual Arts Association
High School Art Competition Feb. 25 – March 17
RICHARDSON, Texas (Feb. 4, 2001) -The Texas Visual Arts Association High School Art Competition will be held in the Main Gallery of the Visual Arts Building at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) from Feb. 25 to March 17. The exhibition, which is free to the public, will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The exhibition is intended to prompt excellence in art among gifted high school students. Winners of the competition will be announced at a closing reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. Monetary awards will be provided for first, second, third and honorable mention, and UTD and the Dallas Community College District will present scholarships for the most outstanding work. The Texas Visual Arts Association, which is sponsoring the competition, also will present an award for photography. In addition, five Dean’s Awards will be presented by UTD.
Jurors for the exhibition will be Cynthia Mulcahy, director of the Mulcahy Modern Art Gallery in Dallas; Tom Sime, a critic for The Dallas Morning News who is also a painter and sculptor; and UTD Assistant Professor John Pomara, an artist who recently exhibited in a one-man show at the Dallas Museum of Art.
