RICHARDSON, Texas (May 6, 2004) — The University of Texas at Dallas’ 13th Annual Golf Tournament, held April 30 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, raised nearly $25,000 for scholarships at the university, according to Robert L. Lovitt, UTD senior vice president for business affairs and one of the tournament’s organizers.
“This tournament has gotten better every year – both in scholarship dollars raised and enjoyment for the participants,” Lovitt said, adding that last year’s tournament had raised about $19,000. “Since we have maxed out on the number of participants we can accommodate, we will continue to look for other ways to increase the dollars raised for student scholarships.” Finishing first in the overall competition was a team led by Frank Sulzbach. Finishing second was a team composed of Leo Eveleth and staff from UTD Athletics. The men’s winner for longest drive was Chuck Mulkey, and the women’s winner for longest drive was Linda Gnade. Jeff Dano won the closest-to-the-hole competition. The winner of the roundtrip airline tickets for two was John Clyne from Alliance Data Systems. Centex Construction Co. served as title sponsor for this year’s tournament. Since its inception in 1992, the UTD Golf Tournament has raised approximately $175,000 for scholarships to the university. The University of Texas at Dallas, located at the convergence of Richardson, Plano and Dallas in the heart of the complex of major multinational technology corporations known as the Telecom Corridor, enrolls more than 13,700 students. The school’s freshman class traditionally stands at the forefront of Texas state universities in terms of average SAT scores. The university offers a broad assortment of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. |
