Bring Western Swing to U. T. Dallas Jan. 23

RICHARDSON, Texas (Jan. 7, 2004) — Tom “Wolf” Morrell, master of Western and Texas swing, will appear in concert with the Time-Warp Top Hands at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Conference Center on Friday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m.
Morrell, a Dallas native once referred to as an “almost-lovable eccentric genius” of jazz and country as well as of Western swing, is a master of the non-pedal steel guitar. Inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2001, Morrell has been named the Academy of Western Artists’ Player of the Year and is in the Fort Worth Western Swing Society Hall of Fame, the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, the California Western Swing Hall of Fame and the Seattle Western Swing Hall of Fame. He has toured with Tex Williams, the Texas Playboys and Ray Prince, among others, and in 2001 received a Grammy nomination for his album “Wolf Tracks.”
Morrell will be joined in the UTD concert by two-time winners of the Academy of Western Swing Artists’ Band of The Year, the Time-Warp Top Hands.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults, $10 for students of other schools and free to UTD students.
