RICHARDSON,
Texas (June 4, 2003) — Acclaimed University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) marketing and economics expert
Dr. Frank Bass has won the prestigious Charles Coolidge Parlin Marketing Research Award for 2003.

The Parlin Award is known as the oldest and most distinguished
award in the field of marketing research. It was established in 1945 by the Philadelphia Chapter
of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in
association with the Curtis Publishing Company to honor persons who have made outstanding contributions
to the field. Recipients are either distinguished academics or practitioners who have demonstrated
outstanding leadership and sustained impact on advancing the marketing research profession over an
extended period.

Professor Bass is the creator of the Bass Model, a mathematical model used to predict the sales and life
cycles of various consumer products, including color television sets in the 1960’s, wireless telephones and
disposable diapers in the 1980’s and, more recently, digital satellite radio. The model has earned him international
recognition.

“It is fitting that Dr. Bass receive this singular
honor that recognizes his leadership and contributions in the field of marketing science,” said
Dr. Hasan Pirkul, dean of the UTD School of Management. “The fact that this is the second major
recognition he has received in as many months is yet another indication of the major contributions
he has made in his field.”

In
May, research papers by Bass and School of Management Professor Dr. Rajiv Banker were listed among
the top five most-cited papers published in the 50-year history of the influential journal Management
Science. The UTD School of Management was the only school to have the work of two of its faculty
members in the top five.
Bass, who is Eugene C. McDermott University of Texas System Professor of Management and director of the UTD
School of Management’s doctoral programs, has won numerous awards for his research, including the Richard
D. Irwin/American Marketing Association Distinguished Marketing Educator Award in 1990. Additionally, the
Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) has created an award in his name, the
Frank M. Bass Dissertation Paper Award, and he won an INFORMS Fellows Award in 2002.

A native of Cuero, Texas, Bass received a Ph.D. degree
from the University of Illinois, an M.B.A. degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a B.B.A.
degree from Southwestern University. In 1960, Bass joined the faculty of Purdue University and later
become the Loeb Distinguished Professor of Management at Purdue’s Krannert School of Management.
He joined UTD in 1982 as a marketing professor.

In addition to being a member of the UTD faculty,
Bass does consulting work for a number of leading companies in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Bass will officially receive his Parlin Award in ceremonies
at the AMA’s Marketing Research Conference in Los Angeles on Aug. 15.
