Radio UTD Interview to Highlight Springapalooza

A Radio UTD interview with Lupe Valdez, the Dallas County Sheriff, is one of the highlights of Springapalooza ’08.

The events, sponsored by the Student Union Activities Advisory Committee, continue through the end of the week.

The Valdez interview on Thursday celebrates Women’s Month, as does an open-mic entertainment later that evening in the Pub.

Events include the following:

21st Annual Casino Night

7 p.m., Wednesday, March 19
The Galaxy Rooms
The 21st Annual Casino Night features games of chance and real prizes.


TRON Laser Tag Challenge

12 p.m., Friday, March 21
The Activity Center Gym
The Activity Center is ground zero for a laser-tag battle, in which contestants will compete to capture the opponent’s flag.


Women’s Month Celebration
Thursday, March 20

  • 6 p.m., Radio UTD, Student Union

    The evening begins at 6 p.m. when with a live radio interview of Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez conducted by student development specialist Randi Mogul.
    Valdez  will share some of the challenges that she has faced as a female in two male-dominated fields: politics and law enforcement.  She is the only female sheriff in Texas and the only Hispanic female sheriff in the U.S.

  • 10 p.m., The Pub
    The evening continues with an open-mic night in the Pub hosted by novelist/poet Camika Spencer, aka Emotion Brown. Guests will include featured poet Black Page, the all-female band Lovie and neo-soul DJ Frances Jaye.
