Scholars to Wrestle with Charting Economy
By: Office of Media Relations | April 10, 2008
How do economic and financial decisions today affect the state of the economy tomorrow?
Scholars from around the country will meet at UT Dallas Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, to discuss various aspects of this question. The conference will cover economic and financial research topics and methods, with a specific focus on modeling dynamics over time.
Distinguished speakers include Kenneth Judd, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, and Jean-Francois Richard, the Mellon Chair at the University of Pittsburgh. Members of the Federal Reserve Board in Dallas and Atlanta also will present.
Both Hasan Pirkul, dean of the School of Management and Brian Berry, dean of the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, will speak to participants. Then various economic and financial scholars will present research papers. Among the presenters are UT Dallas finance professor Harold Zhang and Qi Feng, a UT Dallas graduate who now teaches at UT Austin.
“This is what we’re all about: bringing people together, sharing methods and looking for synergies,” said Chetan Dave, a macroeconomics professor in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.
The conference is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research, the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences and the School of Management.
“This research gives intellectual architecture for policy, which is effectively the objective of much of macroeconomic research,” said Dr. Dave.
The conference is intended for faculty and graduate students. For more information and a schedule, contact Chetan Dave (972) 883-2306.
