Student Affairs Names New Associate Dean

Dr. Cynthia Jenkins joins the Office of Student Affairs this month as one of three associate deans of students.  Her areas of oversight include living learning communities, service learning and disability services.

“I look forward to being a part of programs that have such tremendous potential to develop into first-class experiences for students at UT Dallas,” Jenkins said of her new position.  “I enjoy creating and implementing new initiatives that contribute to students’ college life as a whole — those things that you take with you after graduation and that instill a lifelong connection to your alma mater.”

Jenkins is a longtime employee of UT Dallas.  She has taught Rhet 1101 — the freshman experience course — and psychology courses at the University since 1998, and became the director of undergraduate advising in 2003.  She is the coordinator of Rhet 1101 and also is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. 

Jenkins earned her Ph.D. in human development and communication sciences from the University in 1991.
           
She will report to Donna Rogers, assistant vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students.  Other associate deans in Student Affairs include Phyllis Blanck, who oversees student organizations, the Student Union Activities and Advisory Board, Greek life, and the Women’s Leadership Conference, and Kim Winkler, who oversees new student programs, commuter student programs, student leadership programs and the University’s parent and family association.
