Documentary director Susan Dynner will join UTD Cinematheque for a screening of her film Punk’s Not Dead on Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in Jonsson Performance Hall.
The film explores the history and influence of the punk youth culture movement spawned by underground rock bands in the United States and United Kingdom in the late 1970s.
The movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and was screened at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival in 2007.
The director, Susan Dynner, first documented the punk rock movement as a photographer in Washington, D.C., in the 1980s. She will be available for question-and-answer session after the film’s showing.
Punk’s Not Dead combines footage of live performances, commentary from band members and behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
The film chronicles the evolution of punk music from its anarchic roots, to its use as a corporate marketing tool and acceptance into popular culture, to its reinvention by more recent generations.
