Campus Laptops to Receive Encryption Software

Campus Information Security will soon require McAfee EndPoint Encryption, formerly SafeBoot software, for all UT Dallas laptop computers. 

Encryption prevents anyone other than a computer’s owner or designate from accessing or reading information on the computer, even if the machine is lost or stolen.
 
In addition, Information Security will coordinate the release of a program that will install Identity Finder on all University laptop and desktop Windows computers and enable computers to report back to a central console.  

This will allow the University to routinely check computers for protected personal identification information, such as credit card numbers and Social Security numbers.  Identity Finder software helps guard against the unnecessary storage of personal information on UT Dallas computers.

The initiative will be carried out by each department across the entire University and will result in strengthened information security at UT Dallas.  All departments are advised to begin implementation as instructed by members of the Information Security team. 

Supervisors should ensure that students and staff in their area implement the software on any University computer.
