Officers Observe Telecommunicators Week
By: Office of Media Relations | April 10, 2009
UT Dallas police will participate in the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week on April 12-18.
This observance honors telecommunications professionals who provide 911 assistance, which has proved to be the difference between life and death in emergencies.
The state requires that all Telecommunication Officers to receive specialized training and get licensed.
The UT Dallas Police Department employs telecommunicators in its Communications Division. They make up a vital component of the department’s public safety plan.
Observance of the week originated in the Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Office in 1981. Congress formalized the observance in 1991.
