The Activity Center — a popular athletic venue that helps keep students, faculty and staff fit — will mark its 10th anniversary on campus today with an open house, refreshments and tours.

“We’ve come a long way over the years,” said Tricia Losavio, director of Recreational Sports for the University.  “We’ve added group exercise and swim classes and personal training, and we’ve expanded clubs sports and intramurals — the center literally offers something for everyone.”

Anniversary festivities will take place from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m.  In addition to snacks and tours, the celebration will include free group exercise classes, a retrospective and giveaways.

“We’re turning the hallways of the center into a ‘green carpet’ runway, similar to the red carpets of Hollywood,” Losavio said.  “Attendees can play games like putt-putt and pop-a-shot basketball to win prizes, or they can take a tour of the facility.”

The group exercise schedule during the anniversary includes three group fitness classes and a spin demo, all of which will be help in the center’s multipurpose room except for spin, which will take place in one of the racquetball courts:

  • Body Sculpting 12–1 p.m.
  • Zumba 1–2 p.m.
  • Spin demo 1:30–2 p.m.
  • Spin demo 5–5:20 p.m.
  • Pilates 5:30–6:45 p.m.

Located adjacent to the School of Management Building and across the street from the Student Union, the Activity Center is open to all students, faculty and staff.

The center lets users get involved in a wide variety of activities, Losavio said.

“You can work out on your own or get together with friends for a game of basketball, racquetball, or volleyball,” Losavio pointed out.  “There’s also squash, badminton, wallyball, tennis or indoor soccer, and we offer different types of equipment for individuals to check out.”

Details about other programs and services, such as personal training, aquatics and membership opportunities, will be available during the celebration.

Anniversary events are open to all alumni, faculty, staff and students.  For more information, contact Losavio at 972-883-2096.
