RICHARDSON , Texas ( May 7, 2004 ) — The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) has awarded Bryce and Jonelle Jordan Scholarships for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts to 11 students.

The 2004-2005 recipients of the scholarships are: Desmond Blair of Dallas in art and technology, Heather Campbell of Houston in art and technology, Whitney Foster of Dallas in music, Rachel Loss-Cutler of Dallas in music, John Ryan Moore of Dallas in visual arts, Stephen Mulder of Friendswood in music, Christina Nielsen of Irving in visual arts, Timothy Stokes of Garland in visual arts, Stefani Taylor of Dallas in art and technology, Kevin Todora of Dallas in visual arts and James Wilder of Allen in music.

The Bryce and Jonelle Jordan Scholarship Fund was established in 1981 to support undergraduate music students at UTD. Bryce Jordan, flutist and musicologist, was the university’s first permanent president and later became president of Penn State University. The scholarships have since been extended , with Dr. Jordan’s approval, to provide financial support for undergraduate students in any of the creative and performing arts.

The School of Arts and Humanities awards these scholarships in the Art and Performance and Art and Technology areas, which includes music, theatre, dance, creative writing, digital media and the visual arts. Scholarships are awarded at the $500 and $1,000 levels to students who are, or will be, full-time students. Although preference is given to students who major in the arts, the scholarships also may be awarded to students who minor in the arts or can demonstrate the ability to make an outstanding contribution to the arts program.
