Grace Bielawski, a sophomore in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, has been chosen to assume the recently vacated Student Government (SG) vice presidency.

Bielawski previously served as SG communications chair.

“I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity,” Bielawski said.  “Student Government works on long-term investments that improve student life on campus, and I’d like to continue sponsoring projects — such as the Spirit Rock — that help students identify with their campus community.”

Bielawski is a McDermott Scholar and Student Ambassador.  She is also involved in Students for Political Education, Action and Knowledge (SPEAK) and Students for Environmental Awareness.  She defeated SG residential student affairs committee chair Karen Hinkley, a psychology senior, and SG technology committee chair Cody Eilrich, an electrical engineering senior in a re-election. Both will continue in their original offices.

UT Dallas students chose their new government last month, electing 24 positions, including president and vice president.

Steven Rosson, who ran unopposed, was elected president.  The student who won the initial election for vice presidential office stepped down when she discovered a technical aspect of her student status associated with a student visa requirements would not allow her to continue in the office.

The year-long terms for the new officers began earlier this month.
