Seniors in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences are starting the new school year at UT Dallas with what planners hope will be a helpful new tradition.

An event called Senior Launch will bring together faculty members and seniors so that they can work together on projects that will prepare the seniors for graduate work or careers beyond the campus.

Senior Launch is Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the McDermott Suite, fourth floor of the McDermott Library.

“It’s a special time in the lives of our seniors, and all of the faculty want to make sure the students have the resources they need to be successful,” said Bert Moore, dean of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences.

In addition to mingling with the faculty and other students, the seniors will hear a special presentation from Dr. Aron K. Barbey, UT Dallas alumnus and researcher at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Barbey’s presentation, titled “Why a Raven is Like a Writing Desk: The Mystery of Scientific Discovery in Graduate School,” will focus on the academic and career steps he has taken after graduating from UT Dallas.

Dean Moore will also present the Seniors’ Choice Faculty Award at the event. Seniors’ Choice is a new award that will be given annually to the undergraduate faculty member voted “most respected” by the school’s seniors.

All seniors in attendance will receive a special gift.  Refreshments and door prizes will also be provided.
