Baylor University’s vice provost of research, Dr. Truell Hyde, has been invited to give a lecture in The University of Texas at Dallas’ 2006-07 “Seminar Series for Lifelong Learners.” He will discuss curriculum, research and outreach activities for K-12 teachers and high school students, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, at Baylor’s Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics and Engineering Research (CASPER).
The free event, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, is also open to the public. It will take place in Room 1.112 of the UT Dallas Conference Center.
Hyde has been on the faculty of Baylor since 1988. Along with his appointment as vice provost, he is a professor in the Department of Physics and the director of CASPER.
The institute is home to experimental and theoretical research in space physics, complex plasmas, shock physics and nanotechnology. Baylor partners with Texas State Technical College in Waco to provide facilities for undergraduate and graduate experiments, and various summer programs offer both high school students and K-12 teachers opportunities to work on real-world research.
The Seminar Series for Lifelong Learners is presented by UT Dallas’ Center for Science Education Research and the Teacher Development Center. It is designed to share recent advances in science and mathematics education with educators and the general public.
