Two University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) professors have been elected to the board of the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE), an international association of scholars who employ a multidisciplinary approach to the study of economic choice.

Dr. Nathan Berg and Dr. Catherine Eckel, both professors of economics and political economy in UTD’s School of Social Sciences, were elected to four-year terms on the SABE board in June. The new board members were introduced at the organization’s annual meeting, held earlier this month at the Sorbonne and Pantheon universities in Paris.
SABE, founded in 1982, is composed of more than 500 members involved in economic analysis, including how other disciplines – psychology, sociology, anthropology, history, political science and biology – affect economic behavior. The organization serves as a forum for research and facilitates communication between economists and scholars trained in related disciplines.
A microeconomist, Berg studies economic behavior, population change and policy. He was recently invited to join the editorial board of the Journal of Socio-Economics, a leading journal in the field of behavioral economics. Eckel’s research is in the area of experimental economics and concerns the effect of social interaction on economic exchange. She also is on the board of the Journal of Socio-Economics and is co-editor of the prestigious Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
