State Employee Charitable Campaign

The drive is the only authorized workplace campaign for state agency and higher education employees throughout Texas.  It supports more than 500 charitable programs, and in 2006 the initiative raised $9.2 million for organizations in Texas.

UT Dallas’ preliminary results for the 2007 campaign represent University calculations and may vary slightly from the SECC’s final numbers:

  • $102,000 in gifts — up from $65,000 in 2006.
  • 35 “Leadership” gifts of $1,000 or more — up from 22 in 2006.
  • More than 500 total contributors completing donation forms — up from 202 in 2006.
  • More than $23,000 in gifts to two of UT Dallas’ own programs — the Academic Bridge Program and the Callier Center for Communication Disorders.

“I offer my sincere thanks to Jody and Robert Nelsen, who were this year’s leadership chairs, as well as the SECC core committee and all of the volunteers whose feet on the ground made this drive successful,” said UT Dallas President Dr. David E. Daniel.  “On behalf of the entire University community, I thank everyone who gave of their time and money to help others.”

Each fall, UT Dallas employees have the opportunity to learn about the charities in the SECC and select those they wish to help.  Participants had the option of making a one-time gift by cash or check or having the gift deducted from each paycheck.  The campaign ran from early September through October.
