UT Dallas Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance Names New Director-in-Residence

Dr. George (Robbie) Robinson, a former White House Fellow and a seasoned business leader with expertise in real estate development, project management, engineering and corporate governance, has been named director-in-residence at the UT Dallas School of Management’s Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance (IECG).

Robinson most recently served as president of GSR Consulting, Inc., where he advised and assisted corporations in improving corporate governance and the effectiveness of boards of directors.

Robinson spent nearly 20 years with Electronic Data Systems (EDS), first as director of development, then as director of worldwide real estate.  His authority and management scope spanned all facets of facilities, including development, purchase and sales, design and construction, asset management and a number of other areas.  In 1996, he managed the start-up and operations of the EDS Board of Directors, developing and implementing principles of corporate governance and corporate decision making.

Before joining EDS, Robinson had an impressive military career.  In 1974, he was chosen to serve in Washington, D.C. as a White House Fellow.  Selected through an intensive national competition, Robinson was only the third Naval Officer to receive this prestigious honor.

Robinson was appointed by IECG’s Executive Director Dr. Constantine Konstans.

“Robbie Robinson brings a wealth of knowledge that will be a great value to the institute,” Konstans said.  “In today’s current business landscape, his depth of understanding of the numerous challenges corporations now face will add further dimension to an already robust institute.”

As director-in-residence, Robinson will advise the institute in such areas as research topics and program structure.  He also will give lectures to classes, advise the center on its organizational structure, assist in fundraising and help benchmark its programs and structure against other corporate governance organizations nationwide.

The term of Robinson’s appointment is one year.  The institute’s first director-in-residence, John M. Roeder, will serve as director-in-residence emeritus.  Roeder, a retired certified public accountant and member of the boards of directors of several publicity held corporations, was appointed in 2005.

IECG conducts research and presents programs focused on enhancing the abilities of corporate directors, senior officers and institutional investors to protect and promote stakeholders’ interests in an effective and ethical manner.

The institute presents programs that focus on ways expenditures for regulatory compliance can be used to enhance corporate governance systems of publicly traded companies and, at the same time, create value for the shareholders and other stakeholders.
