RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 29, 2004) — Dr. Marianne Stewart, political science program director and a professor of government, politics and political science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), has been named editor of the prestigious scholarly publication the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS).
AJPS, which is ranked with the American Political Science Review as the leading scholarly journals in the field of political science, will move from its current location at Texas A&M University to UTD beginning in the fall of 2005. With its arrival, UTD’s School of Social Sciences will be home to four of the leading journals in political science and public administration in the country.
Published for the Midwest Political Science Association continuously since 1956, AJPS is a premier scholarly research journal for peer-reviewed articles from fields in political science, including American, comparative and international politics, and methodology and theory. It also publishes articles about economics, methodology and statistics, as well as topics from other disciplines.
As editor, Stewart will provide an interface with political science and related disciplines, as well as intellectual leadership and a management structure for manuscript review and decision. Stewart expects to receive more than 1,000 manuscript submissions per year from the United States and abroad.
Stewart’s research and instructional areas at UTD include comparative government and politics, elections, public opinion and voting behavior, political participation and research methodology. Her research has been supported by Britain’s Economic and Social Research Council for the 2001/02 and upcoming 2005/06 British Election Study, as well as by the National Science Foundation.
Stewart has published in such major academic journals as AJPS, American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, as well as in books published by the university presses of Cambridge, Duke and Oxford. Her most recent book, Political Choice in Britain, was co-authored with Harold Clarke, David Sanders and Paul Whiteley and was published by Oxford University Press.
Stewart served as assistant editor of the Journal of Politics and as associate editor of International Studies Quarterly. She also has been a member of the editorial boards of the AJPS , Journal of Politics and Structural Equation Modeling and the executive councils of the American (ex officio), Midwest and Southern Political Science Associations. She was political science program director at the National Science Foundation and has held several administrative appointments at UTD. Stewart received her Ph.D. from Duke University.
The other journals housed in UTD’s School of Social Sciences are Political Research Quarterly and Electoral Studies, both edited by Harold Clarke and Public Administration Review , edited by Larry Terry.
The American Journal of Political Science previously was edited by Kim Quaile Hill and Jan E. Leighley.
