The UT Dallas School of Management has named Jerry Hoag, the executive director of the UT Dallas Leadership Center, as associate dean of the school’s Executive Education area.

Hoag assumes the lead Executive Education position after David Springate stepped down from the role in 2008 to found the Center for Finance Strategy Innovation at UT Dallas.

Hoag will provide strategic direction to the program, which includes a top-ranked EMBA program and four additional graduate degree-granting programs that enroll nearly 400 students.

“The School of Management is the place where tomorrow’s business leaders are exposed to the theory and practice of business management that is required in today’s world economy,” said Hoag, who has held the post on an interim basis since August 2008. “I am honored to assume this new responsibility at a time when the school is poised to lead the way.”

Hoag served as chairman of the school’s Advisory Council before founding the Leadership Center in 2003. After earning an MBA from Stanford University, he held key leadership positions in a variety of industries.

“I am very pleased that Jerry has agreed to accept this important role,” said School of Management Dean Hasan Pirkul. “He has already contributed significantly to the school’s growth and success with his broad experience, vision, integrity and steady leadership. The school will be well-served by his collaborative outlook, his deep understanding of the wide range of opportunities and challenges facing the school and his devotion to keeping its programs fresh and forward-looking.”

“The operation is like racehorses going down a path, but there’s a lot of value in crossing lanes,” Hoag said. “One of the first things we need to do is build a brand and a successful marketing plan by developing materials and tools we can use leveraging the school’s strengths.”

Currently, Executive Education degree programs outnumber non-degree programs about 3 to 1 in terms of revenue, but Hoag sees that ratio shifting as the school capitalizes on its strengths in custom-designing corporate programs. The School of Management has become a leader in tailoring programs for such corporations as Champion Technologies, Ericsson, ACCOR, Energy Future Holdings, CB Richard Ellis and many others.

“I see these types of programs exploding as companies increasingly look to universities to deliver customized programs that have been developed to suit their specific needs,” Hoag said.
