The University of Texas at Dallas has appointed Meredith Dickenson as assistant vice president for communications.

She will oversee the University’s media relations functions, reporting to Susan Rogers, vice president for communications.

“We are extremely pleased to add such a seasoned professional to our staff,” Rogers said. “Meredith’s comprehensive view of outreach and her collaborative, team-building style will be a great asset to UT Dallas’ efforts to better tell its story.”

Dickenson brings 20 years of experience in the field of public relations to her new position.  Before coming to UT Dallas, she was the director of national media relations at Southern Methodist University, where she developed convergent media strategies using web and traditional news sources, tripling national media coverage and provided strategic and crisis communication counsel to  administrators and faculty members.

Dickenson has worked as a press secretary in the Texas Legislature and as a senior writer and media specialist for the University of North Texas.  As a principal in the public relations firm of Sterner-Sedeno Communications, her clients included the Meadows Museum, LeTourneau University, Briggs-Freeman Real Estate Brokerage and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

She began her career as a television reporter and producer for KBTX-TV in Bryan-College Station and later KWTX-TV in Waco.  During her broadcast career, she was a frequent contributor to CBS Radio News and “CNN Headline News.”

In 2004 Dickenson and another colleague won a national award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for the year’s best media relations campaign.  She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in liberal arts from SMU.
