The Center for the Study of Texas Politics at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host two events in coming weeks – one a talk by a candidate for governor, the other a panel discussion featuring political writers from three major daily newspapers. The events, which are free and open to the public, are:

  • A presentation by Chris Bell, a former Democratic Congressman from Houston and a current candidate for Texas governor, Oct. 20, 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. This is the first in what the center’s director hopes will be a series of appearances on campus by Texas gubernatorial candidates.
  • Writing Texas Politics,” a panel discussion among three Austin-based political reporters, Janet Elliott of the Houston Chronicle, Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman and Terry Stutz of the Dallas Morning News, Nov. 1, 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Both events will be held in the UTD Conference Center, Room CN 1.112. Reservations are not required, but to ensure a seat, please call 972-883-4929 or stop by Green Hall, Room 2.534, on the UTD campus between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

The Center for the Study of Texas Politics is a non-partisan entity based in UTD’s School of Social Sciences. Founded three years ago, the center provides opportunities for residents of the Metroplex to interact with Texas’ leading policy-makers, while simultaneously enhancing the quality of instruction, research and service at UTD. The center is headed by Associate Professor Dr. Greg Thielemann, a fifth-generation Texan and an expert on the Texas Legislature and the state’s political scene.
