The passes that let riders take DART for free will get a makeover at the end of August when it’s time for the cars to be renewed.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has begun using standard cards for pass programs at all area universities and employers. The new passes will bear photos and names of users, and will be valid for a calendar year.
Current cards expire Aug. 31. UT Dallas Police Department staff members have started processing renewals.
Requests for new passes and renewals can be made online for pick-up at the Comet Center in August.
More than 5,000 students, faculty and staff members are using the cards, says Nancy Branch, transportation manager for UT Dallas.
Riders can board a bus that stops on campus and take Route 883 to DART’s Bush Turnpike rail station.
The transit passes also let holders ride free on any bus or rail service operated by DART, including the Trinity Railway Express. The DART pass is also honored by The T in Fort Worth.
DART will allow a short grace period for riders in early September to accommodate the program changes.
