The University of Texas at Dallas men’s golf team celebrated after winning the American Southwest Conference championship at the Oakwing Golf Club in Alexandria, Louisiana.

The University of Texas at Dallas collected two more American Southwest Conference (ASC)  championships over the weekend as the men’s golf team captured its first ASC crown in 20 years, and the women’s tennis team won its fourth straight title.

The golf team tied its lowest 54-hole score in program history to win its tournament by 15 strokes at the Oakwing Golf Club in Alexandria, Louisiana, on April 30. Andrew Chow became the first Comet to take home medalist honors since 2003 after winning a one-hole playoff. Cole Wiley tied for third place, and Tyler Durden placed fifth. All three Comets made the All-Tournament Team.

The UT Dallas men’s team, ranked No. 13 by Golfstat and No. 14 by the Golf Coaches Association of America, earned the ASC’s automatic qualifier berth to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, which will begin May 16 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The women’s tennis team celebrated after capturing the American Southwest Conference championship at Streich Tennis Center in Abilene, Texas. UTD will host the opening rounds of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship. Details are on the Comet Sports website.

Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team cruised to a 5-1 win over Hardin-Simmons University in its ASC title match April 29 at Streich Tennis Center in Abilene, Texas.

The ASC championship is the fifth overall for the Comets. UT Dallas will host matches in the first three rounds of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament at the UTD Tennis Complex, beginning with the Comets facing Whitman College at noon on Friday, May 5.

With a win, the Comets would face No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (22-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6. The other contest that day features No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 16 Trinity University. The third-round match is at noon Sunday, May 7.

Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen, who won both her singles and doubles matches in the ASC finals, was named the tournament’s MVP. Suzuka Nishino, Rebecca Jackson and Megan Zeng were also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
