The University of Texas at Dallas’ Naveen Jindal School of Management ranks 31st among full-time graduate business schools in the U.S. and 22nd for its part-time Master of Business Administration program in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, released March 30.

The Jindal School also placed in the top 30 nationally for five MBA specialties: project management (No. 6), information systems (No. 13), supply chain management (No. 21), production operations (No. 24) and business analytics (No. 28).

“To be in the company of other premier programs like the University of California, Berkeley, the universities of Michigan and of Virginia, UCLA and UT Austin is a clear indication that our school is a highly sought destination for highly competitive students, as well as top employers seeking top talent,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul, Jindal School dean and Caruth Chair. “Our upward climb speaks to our efforts to recruit the very best students, deliver an exceptional education and connect students with top employers.”

In the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, the criminology graduate program ranks 26th in the nation, while public affairs ranks 58th, and the political science and economics programs each rank 81st.

“We are proud of the efforts of our students, faculty and staff for raising the profile and visibility of UT Dallas, which are key to our continued success in national rankings,” said Dr. Inga Musselman, provost, vice president for academic affairs and the Cecil H. Green Distinguished Chair of Academic Leadership.

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science overall ranks 62nd in the nation among engineering graduate schools, trailing only Texas A&M University, the University of Texas and Rice University within the state. The bioengineering program rose 10 spots to No. 61.

“The physician-scientist continuum between UT Dallas and UT Southwestern is the engine driving our phenomenal growth,” said Dr. Shalini Prasad, professor and department head of bioengineering and the Cecil H. and Ida Green Professor in Systems Biology Science. “It helps us train students who are able to translate their research into transformative solutions to real-world problems.”

Other strong showings from Jonsson School specialties include computer engineering (No. 51), electrical engineering (No. 53), materials engineering (No. 72) and mechanical engineering (No. 77).

Each year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in a variety of fields based on expert opinions about program excellence as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students. The data comes from statistical surveys sent to graduate program administrators and from reputation surveys sent to academics and professionals in the disciplines.

“It is gratifying to see such strong results in several UT Dallas schools and programs,” said Dr. Richard C. Benson, UT Dallas president and the Eugene McDermott Distinguished University Chair of Leadership. “These rankings are a reflection of the deep commitment of our faculty and staff and of the hard work and creativity of our students.”
