UT Dallas will celebrate the cultural diversity of the more than 2,500 international students on campus when International Week kicks off March 30.  

The week will include dinners, dance parties and a talent show.  Activities are sponsored by the International Student Services Office and various student organizations and campus departments. 

For the opening event, Passport to the World, scheduled for Monday, March 30, from 12-2 p.m., participants will represent their countries through creativity in dress, food, design and artifacts.  A group of judges from campus will choose the best food, national dress and overall display.  Performances by a Japanese fusion taiko drumming group, the Kobushi drummers, and the Arts and Humanities UTDance Ensemble are planned.

The International Talent Show is set for Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m. and will showcase performances of song and dance from around the globe.  The program will include the announcement of the winners from Passport to the World.

  • Diversity Dinner Dialogues, “Cultural Traditions,” March 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m., McDermott Suite, registration required.
  • Film Screening, “Rendition,” March 31, 8:30-11 p.m., McDermott Auditorium, McDermott Library.
  • Henna by Sumaiya, April 1, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Women’s Center Conference Room, McDermott Library.
  • Film Screening, “Slumdog Millionaire,” April 1, 7-9 p.m., Jonsson Performance Hall (University Theatre).
  • Cricket Tournament, April 1-April 3, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., softball fields.
  • Study Abroad Booth, April 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Student Union.
  • International Talent Show, April 2, 7 p.m., Conference Center.
  • World Beats Dance Party, April 2, after the talent show, Student Union Galaxy Rooms.

A collection of books and art from around the world also will be on display on the first floor of the McDermott Library from March 30 to April 3. 

International Week runs through April 3, and all students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate.  Greek Week will take place concurrently and also will feature an international theme.  Several Greek organizations will be participating in activities associated with International Week.
