The Way They Shine Opens Feb. 15 at UT Dallas

The University of Texas at Dallas will present The Way They Shine, a play written by Erik Ehn and directed by Raphael Parry, artistic director for Shakespeare Dallas, Feb. 15-17 and 22-24 in the University Theatre.  All performances begin at 8 p.m.

In the play, “Merle Haggard,” the “Ram” and a few five-pound fairies try to restore order after the executioner for the State of Texas walks off his job.  The production, which combines music and video with live acting, features original music by UT Dallas faculty member Mary Medrick and her husband, Michael Medrick. 

Parry promises audiences will “enjoy the sights and sounds of a metaphysical journey, from the border of Mexico to the State Fair of Texas and all points geographic and emotional in between.”

As an actor and director, Parry has worked in the Dallas theatrical community for more than 20 years.  He is co-founder and former artistic director of Undermain Theatre, and has performed with many theatres in the area, including the Dallas Theater Center, Kitchen Dog and the Pocket Sandwich Theatre.  Currently, he is in his sixth season as artistic director for the Shakespeare Dallas.    

The Way They Shine is produced in cooperation with Project X, a Dallas-based theater group that presents traditional, cultural art forms and artistic explorations in an urban center for art and learning.
