Texas Visual Arts Association High School Art Competition at UT Dallas Feb. 23 – March 11

The Texas Visual Arts Association (TVAA) High School Art Competition will be held in both the Main Gallery and the Mezzanine Gallery of the Visual Arts Building at The University of Texas at Dallas from Feb. 23 to March 11. 

This juried exhibition will offer scholarships and financial awards from TVAA and UT Dallas to promote excellence in the visual arts among gifted Texas high school students.  Entries are expected to include paintings, sculptures, jewelry, drawings and photographs.  The competition is sponsored by TVAA, UT Dallas, Asel Art Supply, Frame-Up and Mullican Art Supply.

Winners of the competition will be announced at a closing reception in the Main Gallery from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11.  First, second and third place awards are worth $500, $300 and $200, respectively.  Honorable mention awards are $50 each.  UT Dallas will award scholarships for the most outstanding work.  TVAA also will present additional special awards.  UT Dallas’ dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Dennis Kratz, will present five Dean’s Awards of $100 each. 

The art exhibition is free and open to the public.  The Visual Arts Building is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The gallery is closed on Sunday, except for the closing reception on March 11.

Jurors for the exhibition will be Rachel Cook, Noah Simblist and Marty Walker.  The jurors will select more than 180 works for the exhibition from an estimated 1,300 works submitted.
