RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 18, 2006) — The internationally renowned One O’Clock Lab Band, the premier ensemble of The University of North Texas’ world-famous jazz program, will perform in the Conference Center on The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) campus at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.
The One O’Clock Lab Band has received four Grammy® nominations, as well as awards from National Public Radio, The International Association of Jazz Educators and the Dallas Observer Reader’s Poll. Regarded as “unsurpassed” among university jazz bands, One O’Clock has performed at the White House and with such artists as Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald.
Directed by Neil Slater, who received his own Grammy nomination for best arrangement on Lab ‘91, the ensemble has toured Europe, Mexico, Australia, Japan and Russia, and past members have gone on to play in bands led by Branford Marsalis, Doc Severinsen, Harry Connick, Jr., Count Basie, David Lee Roth, Woody Herman and Bill Evans.
The concert is supported in part by the Carl J. Thomsen Fund for Student Enrichment. Last year’s performance, which became a Hurricane Katrina fundraiser, featured a record attendance. UTD donated ticket proceeds in excess of $2,600 to the Red Cross to aid the recovery effort.
Tickets for the show are $20 for general admission, $10 for students and free to UTD students with a valid identification.
