RICHARDSON, Texas (Dec. 18, 2006) — The exhibition Object, curated by John Pomara and Charissa Terranova, will run in the main gallery of the Visual Arts Building at The University of Texas at Dallas from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
In this mixed media exhibition, artists create hybrid forms of art that investigate the object’s plurality of form in current art practices. Featured artists include Frances Bagley, Candice Briceno, Nancy Brown, Richie Budd, Jeff Hand, Lily Hanson, Teresa O’Conner, Tim Stokes, Jason Villegas and Kathy Webster.
Terranova remarks that, though seemingly mundane, “objects have a magical, if not chimerical power.” Items in the exhibition include video, textile-paintings, three-dimensional photographs, sculpture and pictures “spilling onto the floor in stuffed-animal splendor.”
Terranova explains, “The work of Object disregards the partitions between painting, sculpture and architecture, claiming media contamination its own. Individual works in the show move seamlessly across and between traditional spatial boundaries.”
The Visual Arts Building is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is closed on Sunday.
An opening reception will take place on Friday, Jan. 12, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
