The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will present “Faun and Games,” a concert of chamber music for piano and winds, on Friday, May 10, at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall on campus. UTD’s Musica Nova ensemble, directed by internationally recognized composer Robert Xavier Rodr�guez, will perform music by Debussy, Dutilleux, Ravel, Mozart and Rossini.

The concert’s featured works will be Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, in a transcription for piano duet by Maurice Ravel, and Mozart’s Dice Game, K516f. Other works include Reflets dans l’eau, Syrinx and L’isle joyeuse by Debussy, Dutilleux’s Sonatine for Flute and Piano, Jeux d’Eau and Toccata by Ravel, plus two transcriptions by Rodr�guez of Mozart’s Rondo in D, K485 and the overture to Rossini’s opera, Cenerentola.

Solo performers will include pianist Yun Zhang, flutist Saar Ravid and pianist Jeff Lankov, who also is assistant director of the ensemble.

Tickets for “Faun and Games” are free to anyone with a UTD photo identification card, as well as for students of other universities and for children. Tickets are $10 for the general public and are available for purchase Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UTD’s Visual Arts Building or by phone with a credit card.

The music of UTD professor Robert Xavier Rodr�guez is regularly performed in American, Latin American and European musical centers, with more than 2,000 professional operatic and orchestral performances in recent seasons. Rodriguez is active as a guest lecturer and conductor. His music is published by G. Schirmer and is recorded on the Newport, Crystal, Orion, Urtext, Delos and CRI (1999 Grammy Nomination) labels.
