Sounds of Class, a family friendly, free music festival held annually on the campus of The University of Texas of Dallas, this year will feature musical themes from the movies, as performed by the Richardson Symphony Orchestra.

The event, which is in its 12th year and is co-sponsored by the City of Richardson, will kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 with a children’s carnival organized by the UT Dallas Student Ambassadors and put on by more than 40 student organizations.

The carnival will include, among other things:

  • Inflatables, such as a slide and bounce house, games for kids of all ages
  • A giant sand pile
  • A petting zoo provided by the City of Richardson Animal Services
  • An instrument petting zoo provided by the Richardson Symphony Orchestra Auxiliary

Beginning at 6 p.m., performer Eddie Coker will entertain families with his original songs.  At 7:30 p.m., the symphony will take the stage.  The concert, featuring scores from such movies as Titanic, Spiderman, The Pink Panther, Mission Impossible and Star Wars, will conclude with a fireworks finale choreographed to the last musical number.

UT Dallas is located at 800 W. Campbell between Custer and Coit Roads.  Attendees should enter the campus through the main gate at University Parkway and follow the signs to parking and the event location.

A concession stand, with hotdogs, snacks and soft drinks, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m., or attendees may bring their own picnic.  Seating is on the lawn adjacent to the University’s Eugene McDermott Library.  Alcohol and pets are prohibited.

In the event of inclement weather, the symphony performance will take place in UT Dallas Activity Center at 8 p.m.
