RICHARDSON, Texas (Nov. 22, 2006) —The University of Texas at Dallas’ Holiday Sing celebration featuring the UT Dallas Chamber Singers and the Symphonic Brass Quintet directed by Kathryn Evans, associate dean for the arts, is set for its 30th anniversary presentation at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the University Theatre.

This year’s theme is “Wassail! Christmas in Merrie Olde England” with music and readings from the time of King Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.  In keeping with the Elizabethan theme, the performers will be in Renaissance dress.  The event also will include a special visit by Santa Claus and a reception with mulled cider and other holiday treats.  The audience will be invited to sing along with traditional carols.

Choral solos will include Here We Come A Wassailing, Coventry Carol, Wassail Song, Nova! Nova! and Lullay I Saw.  Children’s songs such as Jingle Bells will be sung in addition to traditional carols such as Away in a Manger, What Child is This, Joy to the World and Silent Night.

The Holiday Sing began at UT Dallas in 1976 with a simple invitation to the university’s neighbors to visit the campus for a special event.  Since then, the concert has become a favorite tradition for residents of the Dallas and Richardson areas.   Due to the popularity of this free event, it is recommended that audience members arrive early.  The Symphonic Brass Quintet will present pre-show holiday favorites.
