RICHARDSON, Texas (Aug. 17, 2006) — Renowned guitarist Edgar Cruz will perform from his diverse repertoire of acoustic works at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) on Saturday, Sept. 9 at      8 p.m. in the University Theatre.

Cruz, who puts on more than 200 concerts yearly, has held the title of Oklahoma’s Best Performing Artist/Acoustic Guitarist for three consecutive years.  Cruz has headlined the Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville since 1995 and has played throughout America and Europe.

Cruz grew up playing rock-and-roll standards by ear.  In college, he received his first formal training in classical guitar.  He has steadily increased his mastery of styles including classical, rock, Latin, flamenco, jazz and mariachi.  His catalog now consists of more than 400 songs from “The William Tell Overture” to “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

According to Cruz, “my dream is to see guitar literature grow to the proportions that piano music has and I would like to contribute personally to this expansion.”
