RICHARDSON, Texas (Jan. 19, 2004) — French classical guitarist Jeremy Jouve, winner of the 21st annual Guitar Foundation of America competition, will perform in concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, in the Jonsson Performance Hall at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).

The evening’s performance will open with Ricercare by Francesco da Milano, Sonata Op. 61 by Joaquin Turina and Sonata Giocosa by Joaquin Rodrigo. After intermission, Jouve will perform Jazz Sonata by Dusan Bogdanovic, Nocturnal for Guitar Op. 70 by Benjamin Britten and Fantasia on Themesfrom Traviata by Francesco Tarrega.

Since beginning guitar studies at the age of seven, Jouve has explored a variety of styles from classical to jazz. He has studied guitar under the guidance of Alberto Ponce, Alfred Cortot and Roland Dyens. He gave his first concert when he was only 11 and has since performed in Switzerland, Mexico, the U. S., India, Poland, Canada, Spain, France, Portugal, Romania, Greece and Italy.

Born in 1979, Jouve has won first or second prize in numerous competitions around the globe. His concerts feature “artistic passion and intellectual focus” in addition to “real excellence,” according to a review in India’s Expressweek..
