The Spring Arts Festival will feature the work of more than 500 students from 25-plus courses in music, visual arts, creative writing, sound design, video and theater at UT Dallas.
The end-of-semester celebration, which will run May 1-3, is free and open to the public. A detailed schedule of events and locations is available at the festival Web site.
The Arts Festival was first established in 1992 as a way for students, from the freshman to graduate level, to showcase their talents. The casual nature of the events lets students perform without the more intense pressure of a formal concert, play or dance production.
The festival schedule offers audiences the chance to roam from one building to another, taking in classical, jazz, theatre, guitar, piano and vocal performances, an art exhibition and a reception.
Joan Davidow, director of The Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, juried the art exhibition in the Visual Arts Building.
During the opening reception on Friday, more than $4,000 in awards will be presented. Sponsors include Asel Art Supply, Film Depot and the Dean of Arts and Humanities.
