The Texas Visual Arts Association (TVAA) High School Art Competition will be held in both the Main Gallery and the Mezzanine Gallery of the Visual Arts Building at UT Dallas from March 3-22. 

This juried exhibition will offer scholarships and financial awards from TVAA and UT Dallas to promote excellence in the Visual Arts among gifted Texas high school students.  The competition is sponsored by TVAA, UT Dallas, Asel Art Supply, Decor Frames and Art, The Frame-Up, Gail Cope, Betsey Forster and John Voelker.

Winners will be announced at a closing reception in the Main Gallery 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.  First-, second- and third-place awards are $500, $300 and $200, respectively.  Honorable mention awards are $50 each.  UT Dallas will award scholarships for the most outstanding work. 

The Texas Visual Arts Association also will present additional special awards, including the Gordon Norris Scholarship for sculpture and the Wilma Dennis Award.  UT Dallas’ dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Dennis Kratz, will present Five Dean’s Awards of $100 each. 

The art exhibition is free and open to the public.  The Visual Arts Building is open Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The gallery is closed on Sundays.

Jurors for the exhibition will be Matthew Bourbon, Brian Gibbs, Sarah Jane Semrad and Chuck Singleton.  The jurors will select more than 180 works for the exhibition from an estimated 1,300 works submitted.
