RICHARDSON, Texas (Aug. 27, 2004 ) — The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host Excessive, a mixed media exhibition encompassing photography, paintings and video and curated by artist and faculty member John Pomara, in the main gallery of the Visual Arts Building from Oct. 1 to Nov. 13.
Excessive will present works by national artists that bring compulsion to a new level by creating and recreating serial works. According to Pomara, Excessive explores the almost compulsive drive artists feel to create works that help explain the world around them or serve as outlets for their frustration and sense of loss.
An opening reception will be held Friday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Seven different artists from New York, Boston, Dallas, and Houston combine their artistry to bring together the show. Gina Dawson, Robert Terry, Eugenio Basualdo, Demian LaPlante, Paul Booker, Betsy Odom and Bill Davenport each selected his or her own theme and materials, which vary from the more “traditional” paint or video to duct tape, pins and Mylar.
Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is closed Sundays and university holidays.
