Kathryn Evans and Ian Yeung will lead The University of Texas at Dallas Chamber Singers, Community Chorale and Early Music Instrumental Ensemble in a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, in the University Theatre on the UTD campus.
Among the works to be performed will be Alessandro Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in c minor, J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 4, Christ lag in Todesbanden and Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, RV 589. Featured performers will include Ceci Lagarenne, oboe; Kathryn Evans, soprano; Mary Medrick, soprano; Carol Chen, alto; and David Love, baritone.
Admission is free, but due to limited seating it is recommended that tickets be obtained in advance by visiting the Art & Performance office in the Visual Arts Building on campus.
Evans joined the faculty of UTD in 1994 and is currently associate dean for the arts and oversees the university’s Art and Performance Program. She teaches choral and vocal music and directs the UTD Chamber Singers. Evans holds masters’ degrees in both music and mathematics from the University of California at San Diego. She served as director of the San Diego Bach Society and was an invited judge at the International Guitar Festival in Rust, Austria, in 2001 and again this year.
Ian Hin-Kei Yeung, director of the UTD Community Chorale, is currently pursuing a Master in Choral Conducting degree at the University of North Texas and a Master of Church Music degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His prior experience includes conducting the UNT Symphony Orchestra at the UNT Annual Concerto Competition and serving as the accompanist for several groups including Canticum Novum, UNT Concert Choir, and the Denton Bach Society as well as performing vocally in many groups and competitions throughout Asia.
