The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will present a one-woman production of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper in the University Theatre April 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. featuring graduate student Brandi Andrade in partial fulfillment of her Ph.D. degree. The event is free and open to the public.
Andrade brings to life Gilman’s chilling 1892 tale of a woman’s decent into madness. The production of the classic feminist text is directed by UTD Associate Professor L.K. Williamson and will be followed by a panel discussion session featuring Andrade, Williamson and several specialists in the fields of feminist literature and women’s health, including Dr. Erin Smith and Michele Cavenee.
Andrade has been acting for more than 15 years and has performed on stages in Hawaii, Arizona, Oklahoma and Kentucky, as well as the Dallas area. Her bachelor’s degree in theatre led her to UTD’s School of Arts and Humanities to become a candidate in the Aesthetic Studies Ph.D. program. Her areas of specialization include theatre, American History and Women’s Studies. She also has co-written a play with Williamson called Voicings: A Celebration of American Women.
