RICHARDSON, Texas (August 31, 2005) — Sounds of Class, a family-friendly, free music festival held annually on the campus of The University of Texas of Dallas (UTD), this year will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special performance by the Beatles tribute band Classical Mystery Tour on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The event, which is co-sponsored by the City of Richardson, will kick off at 5 p.m. with a children’s carnival organized by the UTD Student Ambassadors and put on by more than 40 student organizations. The carnival will include an inflatable slide and bounce house, an obstacle course, low-tech games for kids ages 2 -10, a giant sand pile and a petting zoo provided by the City of Richardson Animal Services.
Beginning at 6 p.m., Eddie Coker will take the stage and entertain children of all ages with his original feel-good songs. At 7:30 p.m., the carnival will end and Classical Mystery Tour — with original cast members from the Broadway sensation “Beatlemania” — will perform with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra. The concert will conclude at approximately 9 p.m. with a fireworks finale.
All activities are free and open to the public and are appropriate for all ages.
Concession stands, featuring hotdogs, snacks and soft drinks, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m.; if they prefer, attendees may bring their own picnic. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Seating is on the lawn adjacent to UTD’s McDermott Library.
In the event of inclement weather, the performances by Eddie Coker and Classical Mystery Tour will be held in UTD’s Activity Center at 8 p.m.
UTD is located at 800 W. Campbell between Custer and Coit Roads. Attendees should enter the campus through the main gate at University Parkway and follow the signs to parking and the event location.
