The Northwood Woman’s Club (NWC) recently donated more than $56,000 to the UT Dallas NWC Endowed Scholarship in celebration of the philanthropy organization’s 40th anniversary.

The club donated $40,000 to the endowment’s principal and an additional $16,586 to support the 2008-2009 scholarship awards. This gift enabled UT Dallas to provide a third scholarship award for the first time.

The 2008-2009 scholarships recipients are the Felicia Weever, Alexandria Boman, and Christina Burrows.

NWC raises approximately $250,000 annually through charitable events and distributes these funds along with tens of thousands of volunteer hours to organizations that provide much needed services to women and children in Dallas and Collin counties.

NWC’s first scholarship was awarded in 1979. The organization established the scholarship endowment in 1986 with the goal of funding two full tuition scholarships annually. For more than 20 years, the members have remained dedicated to providing sufficient funds for these scholarships, despite dramatic increases in education costs.

The Greater Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals recognized NWC with the 2008 Philanthropist of the Year award. The organization also received the Dallas Mayor’s Award for service and philanthropy in 2006.

Many of the club’s members, spouses, children and grandchildren are UT Dallas students or alumni.
